Benefits of singing nursery rhymes to your child

What to expect at a mumbaba class

We sing nursery rhymes and action songs using a range of instruments, sensory props, parachutes, bubbles and more.

The interactive sessions will help your child gain confidence and develop memory, language and coordination skills in an exciting, enjoyable and multi-sensory way. Phonics Phase 1 (letters and sounds) and Early Learning Goals activities are interwoven throughout the session.

We then have 20 minutes after the singing for the children to get a snack and a drink. We try to bring different toys each week but generally play-dough, stilts, dressing up, role play areas, fine and gross motor skills activities.

The adults can enjoy a cuppa and time to socialise whilst the children play.

We end with a new story about Baba (the Mumbaba baby) and Baba’s friends. Each story has a theme and a situation – like a trip to the zoo or exploring in the garden and we have woven activities, a song and learning goals into each story.

You can access the stories to read with your child again on the Story Time page on this website and our facebook page. Story time is a great way to end the session.

If you have any questions, or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out.
